About Raven Riddle

“Why is a raven like a writing desk?”, Lewis Carroll, The Raven Riddle, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, 1865

Hi Everyone,

Welcome to our new food blog, ‘The Raven Riddle’.  We created this blog to be a fun, interactive conversation with other food minded folks.  I am a food fanatic, my daughter is a marketing, social media genius, and my husband is an amazing prep and IT guy – and we love all things associated with food!  Together we are starting this journey doing what we love best.

The inspiration that led to the blog was to provide an interactive forum for foodies to exchange thoughts, ideas, experiences, questions and anything else relevant as we moving through the world of food, and all the fun things that come with it. There will be no definitive parameters to our foodie madness.  That could mean fun, fast, healthy food, yummy comfort favorites, helpful tips, unique and innovative menus, tabletop ideas, new restaurants that cater to edgy fun menus, great food markets, or new products that might be interesting…we want it all!

A little bit of our history…we owned a coffee roasting company – Sweet Sam’s Java Joint, with a gourmet food goods store and deli for 13 years.  Our passion for finding new ways to use all things that can be eaten, grew as we did more and more food tastings with in-house products to show folks how to use high quality gourmet jar goods as flavorful, shortcuts to great appetizers, small plates, main menu items and desserts. It became a game to ‘stump the owner’ with uses for different jar goods.

Recently, I left the corporate world to finally follow my insatiable passion – all things food!  I don’t see food as recipe ingredients; rather, unending artistic components waiting to be fused and created. I would love for you to share in this happy adventure and be a part of the group.  I have never really been a recipe person, but I plan learn with you in order to curb my flights into fancy with respect to tracking ingredients, and will do my best to archive measurements relating to recipe ingredients to share with you. (Warning, sometimes I just go off the grid!  Come with me won’t you?)

Our hope for this page – we all get to know one another and have some good times learning to have fun with food, see beautiful edibles and take chances with them, look for unusual things to try in different places;  and, eventually step away from recipes to experience the fabulous palette of food art you can create – easily and with slap yo’  momma  good results.

I am excited to get to know you, share with you, get your comments and questions, and just have some fun with the art of food preparation and presentation.  I love to find beautiful food at markets, in gardens, in the pantry and in my refrigerator…and see where they take me!

Lewis Carroll answered the riddle with the following, “Because it can produce a few notes, tho they are very flat; and it is nevar put with the wrong end in front.” He intentionally spelled the word never incorrectly as “nevar” or “raven” backwards.

This journey is not prescribed; together I hope we can enjoy it for what it turns out to be..

The time has come the walrus said to speak of many things……
